Baby, It’s Cold Outside: For those brave enough to battle the elements on Saturday night, a romantic Valentine’s Day-themed event awaited them at Uptown Rooftop Bar. Couples could enjoy a prix-fixe menu consisting of shrimp cakes and bacon-wrapped filet, while those who were single and ready to mingle could take part in a charity bachelor/bachelorette auction, getting the chance to win a date with 10 friendly faces, including model Margaret Wood and CMT’s Josh Varnado. “I’m just hoping someone bids more than a dollar and a coupon on me,” laughed bachelor Jeff Pollock of Squirrel Hill. All proceeds go to support the Red Light Fund and the American Heart Association. “I just wanted to do something where both singles and couples could come and enjoy a fun night out with friends,” said event planner Kent Schmor.
It’s Complicated: Also on hand was Modern Matchmaker Inc. founder and president, Susan Dunhoff, who played Cupid throughout the evening. “If I see someone standing alone, looking a little nervous, I go up to them and ask them if they need a little help. Cheesy pickup lines don’t work. Just be natural, be yourself.”
