Singles in the city “faced off” to support the Mario Lemieux Foundation at Blue Line Grille! The Modern Matchmaker and WHIRL Magazine hosted 75 guests, who raised nearly $10,000 in just a few hours. As those attending mingled, hors d’oeuvres, including chorizo and wild mushroom quesadilla bites; grilled cheese bites; and buffalo chicken bites were passed around. Singles scored with outstanding silent and Chinese auctions, which featured a seven-day trip to the Dominican Republic — purchased by the Scumacci family for $4,200. “Mario Lemieux Foundation Director of Marketing Drew Parrish was present, and was thrilled with the turnout and all of the amazing auction items that were donated,” says Associate Matchmaker Lori Czekaj, who co-coordinated the rendezvous. “This was the first event to be held at the Blue Line Grille since its opening, and we are so grateful to [owners] James ‘Doc’ Mendelson and Kevin Nord for hosting us.” Sports fans were crazy in love with the autographed Penguins hockey memorabilia, hockey tickets, and other merchandise that was up for grabs. “Doc is a dear friend and mentor, and having the opportunity to benefit a charity I love, too, well, it was a win-win opportunity,” says Czekaj. “The Modern Matchmaker is thrilled to be able to spotlight one of the newest and hottest date spots in Pittsburgh!”
